A lot on your plate

A creative Healthy Food program of work funded by Early Help and Prevention Grant, KCC.

Espression were delivered a range of outreach workshops during the summer holidays with pre school children and parents taking part in decorative plate painting, cooking workshops and teddy bears picnic and many more.  Delivery locations were Riverside Children Centre, Poets Corner – Canterbury District Early Years, Espression Arts Cafe, Lily’s Social Bistro and Poppies Children Centre in Herne Bay.

The main program of work had a focus on the children and families around the Northgate Ward in Canterbury. Espression Arts worked with children and parents from St Johns Primary School and Nursery looking at healthy eating with a focus on Snacks. Children and their families were engaged both in school and at our Art Cafe through:

  • Fun food tasting workshops

  • Decorative plate painting

  • Animation Workshops

Every child will get to take home their plate as an on going reminder about smaller portions, healthy snacks.  The animations will be used by the school to educate the children and families through their website.

The children also made some lovely animations, led by the wonderful Young Animators Club:
