Our Work of Art – Rural Outreach 2019

Our work of art 2019 follows on from the success of Our work of art 2018 and will build on the existing partnerships with Kent Arts and Wellbeing and both Age Uk Canterbury and Age Uk Herne Bay to deliver creative arts projects to vulnerable older people throughout this year. We will also be building the capacity of our wonderful Creative Volunteer team. Our project aims to:

1 - RURAL OUTREACH

Engage and deliver Arts & wellbeing creative ‘taster’ sessions for the ‘Age of Creativity’ festival period May/ June/ July 2019 outreach in rural locations. We have funding for up to 18 sessions for members of village communities for 50+ active ageing people to have a go at a range of creative activities.  If you are a community who would like to take part and can gather a group of 10 – 15 participants for a morning, afternoon or evening of Tea and Creativity then get in touch. No Prior creative experience needed!

2 – Creative Volunteer Recruitment and Training

For Our Work of Art 2018 we recruited, trained and worked with 41 volunteers to deliver creative arts workshops and build creative confidence of vulnerable older people in the Age Uk settings – both in Canterbury and Herne bay/Whitstable.  In Summer 2019 we will be recruiting 15 more creative volunteers to join the team and attend training in October 2019.  We will be looking for caring and sociable people who would like to help older people achieve creative projects.

3 – Creative Volunteer Peer Network

We have a wonderful, motivated and skilled group of volunteers who have undertaken training in working with vulnerable older people, people living with dementia and people who might be lonely and isolated.  We have trained in decorative ceramic painting and will be empowering and up skilling our volunteers this year in Mosaic, decopatch and other craft skills. Our Volunteer Network meets monthly for the duration of this project at Espression Arts Cafe offering opportunity to share ideas, take responsibility in project tasks, learn from and support each other, socialise and have fun.

4 – Creative Session Delivery

All our trained volunteers will be split into groups to deliver 36 workshops to both Age Uk Canterbury and Age UK Herne Bay and Whitstable starting in October 2019 through to March 2020. Volunteers will take on more of a lead in delivering the workshops supported by Espression Arts Arts Facilitators.
